I want to believe ... in Fox

So, Fox has confirmed talks to bring back 'The X Files'

If Chris Carter Writes it, with todays technology then this has the potential to be Phenomenal!

Its product from 20 years ago sh!ts all over the majority of mainstream popular shows of today like 'The Walking Dead', 'Sons of Anarchy' and 'Gotham' which are all absolute garbage, not just in comparison to the  'X files I am talking in general

(Authors Note: Its fully understood that my previous comments about TWD, gotham and SOA are going to be received as very unpopular comments. But if you would like to read a blog from a writer whom is going to ram their tongue between Robert Kirkman's butt-cheeks, then Im quite sure that is easy enough to find, just Google "How Awesome the Walking Dead is" and you will be met with thousands of recipients. )

The problem for me is, this show has an amazing cult following, one that I'm pretty sure not many people of todays generation are actually aware of.

Especially when you actually think about this.

This is FOX. Fox cancelled shows like 'Firefly', 'The OC' & 'Prison Break', which all had a huge fan base, at one point they even cancelled 'Family Guy'.
FOX do not bring shows back lightly, especially considering that 'X Files' ended 15 Years ago.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny can still cut it with the best of them, Anderson still looks great! and if you haven't followed Duchovny since 'X Files' ended, just watch 'Californiacation'.
His performance speaks for itself.

'The X Files' has the potential to fight against that "Political correction" that happens in this modern day with Television, that Writers have to be very careful of what content they put into their stories incase its considered "Racist, Homophobic, sexist" etc. etc. etc. Its that you cant do or say certain things on television because its unethical.

The X Files is able to cover Themes that we all as human being are fascinated by.

There are reasons we follow particular News Stories, such as Child Abduction, Murders and Rape because we're fascinated by it.

'The X Files' has potential, as a show to break through those political views

The show uses Symbolism in Themes about children being abducted by aliens, which is that of child kidnappings. Other themes are used, such as drug abuse, rape, Mass suicide, mutilation and so much else.

The show has the potential to craft some pretty amazing angles and swerves and bringing it back raises the bar for what people should expect from Television.

I look at shows such as 'The Walking Dead' and I don't argue that it gets fantastic ratings, but I look at that products quality and I don't see much there.
I see very mundane story-archs, crossed with very 1 dimensional characters, but most importantly, I see a lot of potential being Wasted and I see a lot of repetitiveness. It truly amazes me that AMC are willing to give this show 16 Episodes per season when 12 of them 16 episodes tend to be filler.

The future of television is now! Its On Demand services such as Netflix that house the future of programming and 'I want to believe' that television writing is headed somewhere, where as an audience, our intelligence isn't being insulted.

We should demand a better quality of programming then what is being put out there.
Why do you think 'Game of Thrones' is so popular!?? Its not because its "The best thing on TV!" its because its the ONLY thing on TV thats actually worth watching, but I'm yet to understand why writers such as those on 'TWD' and 'SOA' dont look at shows like 'GoT' and aim to have there product as GOOD as that! not as popular, but as GOOD!

The characters are nurtured. They've been patient with their story arch. They care more about the Quality of the show rather than the Quantity of their audience, because they are fully aware that if your show is good enough, then "If you built it, they will come" and thats exactly why this show has became so popular.

So please Fox, Bring back 'The X Files' to show the audience that we should be demanding a better quality of programming because we are tired of our intelligence being insulted.

Bring back Chris Carter as the writer because he has the ability to raise the bar as to what people should be watching.

We need this.

Dumb and Dumber To - Anaylsis

"We got no food, we got no jobs... Our PETS' HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!"

These days it feels though its your toupee's that are falling off!

Although it was very refreshing to see a film with major actors such as Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that actually contains jokes, with what I suppose today would be considered borderline racism, sexism and even small jabs at the disabled community, which might I add none was done in poor taste, it was done to compliment the idiocy of the main characters, for example when a young Chinese man approaches Lloyd he refers to him as "This Mexican kid", it's not like racial slurs were used, it was just done like I said, to complement the idiocy of Lloyds character, that he cannot differentiate the difference between Chinese and Mexicans, not because he's racist and ignorant, just because he's just dumb.

It was just nice to see a film take a risk for a change, this gave the film that 90s feeling, before political correctness took over the world and everybody got real sensitive about everything!

This movie is a great example for people to understand that you DON'T have to be so sensitive about these topics just because you can, or just because any notion to Equality and Diversity in a "borderline negative" way, well people just go crazy and assume that they must be being racist because he referred to a black person as being black. "How Dare They!"

Instead of being offended by these types of things, embrace them. Humor them.
Just have fun with them, in good taste obviously, Just like how it was used in this film.
So for that principal alone, i have nothing but complete admiration for all those involved in this film.

Movies and the Television industry were built on stereotyping everyone and everything.

You use stereotypes to tell a story.

But,
I found this film to be nothing more than what I feared it would be, yes it did have a lot to live up to, but none the less it was still trying to be the first. With very familiar scenes and situations and even similar characters.

I also found that in the original the characters of Llyod and Harry came very naturally to Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels and that was the magic that made the movie work, whereas in this one I felt like they were trying too hard to recreate that uniqueness.

'D&Dto' felt more like a situation comedy, or what the majority of comedies, and the Comedy Genre itself has become these days, rather than telling a story that just so happens to involve funny situations, it's become a bunch of sketches put together with a story added so it gets you from one sketch to another.
There was no natural flow to this movie whatsoever, it was literally going from one gag to the next, Yes it was very funny. But it certainly doesn't live up to the first.
There was no emotion that flowed through the film like the first, you didn't feel as connected to these characters like the first.

The best part of this film for me, was the 30 seconds, we got with the iconic 'Mutt Cutts' van. But really, what was the point in bringing it back? I hoped for it to come back for the rest of the film, it felt like the Farrelly Brothers brought it back just because that van is so iconic with the first film, that they needed to use it as a marketing ploy to advertise the film, so they had to put it in this film somewhere, there was no obvious intentions for them to incorporate it into the story, hence why they destroyed the van within 30 seconds, this scene is a perfect example of this film in a nutshell, just pointless.

Jim Carrey was, as always, fantastic, Jeff Daniels on the other hand wasn't, he wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either.
His performance felt like each line he had was just setting up for Jim to say something funny or pull a funny face.
Which is a shame because both characters need each other to play off one another. They only work as one entity, i struggled with The belieavability of the friendship between these two because I felt like Jeff Daniels portrayal was holding Jim Back, I felt like he couldn't keep up with him anymore, again, not an insult to Jeff Daniels because 'The Newsroom' is a perfect example that this guy is still a fantastic actor, I just don't think Comedy is where he should be at this stage in his career.

This film didn't have that bond between Lloyd and Harry that the first one did, that even though they are both idiots, they are idiots together. All they need is one another. This film didn't offer that.

The worst part of this film was there was absolutely no real resolution or closure to this film whatsoever and the ending made the entire film seem pointless. I felt like I had wasted the entire film as

*SPOILERS*

Not only did it turn out that Penny wasn't Harrys, but she was not Llyods either and to add salt to the wound, Harry didn't need any life threatening operation?

What was the actual point of this film?

I understand why they made the entire thing just a "Harry ribbing Llyod' because again, it does compliment the idiocy and the actors and yes, you could believe that their characters would do things like this to one another, but not for 20 years, or joke about a life threatening operation.

When Harry found out that he was a Father, they gave him a reason to go find her. He needed to go find her because he needed their Kidney.

If you had no intention of giving closure to the 'Harry needing a new Kidney' part of this film. Then don't do it. Simple.

Him finding out he was a Father was reason enough to get them started on another crazy Dumb and Dumber adventure, I didnt feel like they "needed" a reason.

Take a look at the First movie, for example.

The briefcase Mary leaves at the airport that Lloyd spends the entire film trying to return to her wasn't the reason he wanted to track her down. It was because he was in love with her. He used the Briefcase as an excuse.

The Farrelly Brothers COULD of used that Kidney operation concept as the perfect reason for him wanting to track his daughter down, and for that entire film I thought it was.
Until the end when it was all a gag.

It ruined it.

I loved the idea that Penny was nor Llyods or Harrys because then you could of had Llyod give Harry half of his Kidney, again, which shows that all these two characters need in this world, is each other.
They are apart of one another, Now not just symbolically, but literally.

They are soul mates.

We spent that entire movie questioning whether that child was going to be Llyods or Harrys because of the scene in the First film, in which it is made very obvious that Llyod had slept with Freda Felcher as well as Harry.

So throughout this movie we were all thinking "yeah, we know it's going to turn out to be Llyods Child.".
Again, I loved that it was neither of them who was the Father because these two are going through this life together, just the two of them. Don't ever add another element to their friendship because it ruins it.

But they should never of had 'Pee Pants' be the Father because we'd spent two hours waiting for the conclusion. Two hours waiting for that "Yes, I knew it was Llyods all along", but when it turns out it wasn't. That's when it suddenly gets really interesting, but then we find out it was 'Pee Pants'. Someone who we have absolutely no emotional attachment too, because not only have we never met him, but he was discussed for about 5 minutes, we found out he was dead then we moved on.

The Father of that baby should have been Sea bass.

Someone who we are attached to because of the first film, especially with the iconic "Kick his Ass Sea Bass" line.

It should have been revealed that Sea Bass was that actual Father and when Llyod and Harry question it, Sea Bass should get all brutish and say "Yeah, you got a problem with that?"
With Freda in the background shouting "Don't Kick Their Ass Sea Bass", which would of been a very nostalgic and amusing moment and a great nod to the first film.

Instead the 'Nod' to the first film in this Sequel was the 30 seconds, we got with the "Mutt Cutts" van.

You dropped the ball on this one guys!

My overall opinion on this movie, was it worth the 20 year wait?

No.

It was an ok film for REAL fans of the original, if you love the original and just want to see what these characters are doing with their lives now, then like me, you will enjoy this film no matter what, but if you are looking for a film that is similar to the first, then this film is far from that.

They left it too long

I'll be back So stay Tuned
